Polyurethane foam mattresses

Such a common material as polyurethane foam was born over 80 years ago. It is characterized by a wide range of applications - it is needed in construction, it is used to create heat-insulating materials, and mattresses are also made on its basis, which will be discussed in our article. Polyurethane foam mattress - harm to health or a reliable accessory for sleep? What is better polyurethane foam or spring mattress?

In fact, the opinions of experts often differ. Some argue that polyurethane foam, in the form in which it is used in mattresses, is not harmful. In the same time, some experts disprove this, citing research as evidencetalking about the presence of emissions of harmful volatile compounds.

In our review, we will talk not only about the chemical, but also about the orthopedic properties of foam mattresses. Why about foam? Yes, because polyurethane foam and foam are, in fact, the same material.

Polyurethane foam and its properties

Foam mattresses are made of polyurethane foam - an artificial material with a foam structure. It is used to make a variety of sponges, fillers, insulation materials, and more. Since chemical components are used for its production, this causes numerous disputes regarding its harmfulness.

There is confirmed evidence that foam rubber really emits a lot of harmful substances when burning in an open flame. But whether the concentration of volatile components is sufficient to cause harm at rest is not yet known. Therefore, foam mattresses are not so uncommon. On the contrary, in the production of cheap mattresses, polyurethane foam has become the most common filler.

Foam rubber has a lot of interesting qualities:

  • It does not burn on its own (only if there is a flame source),
  • Quickly restores shape
  • He is very cheap
  • Low thermal conductivity
  • High level of vapor tightness and moisture tightness.

Due to its properties it becomes an ideal basis for the production of heat-insulating and moisture-insulating materials.

Not without flaws:

  • Polyurethane foam is destroyed by direct sunlight,
  • It does not tolerate prolonged contact with water,
  • Emits harmful components (controversial issue).

As for polyurethane foam mattresses, they also have their advantages and disadvantages. We figured out the polyurethane foam itself - now let's talk about mattresses.

Polyurethane foam mattresses - benefit or harm

Foam mattresses are a health hazard. And the point here is not even the chemical properties of polyurethane foam. If we isolate the foam rubber from the external environment, then the mattress will still be dangerous. Let's figure out what its danger is.

Human health directly depends on the condition of the spine. Being engaged in physical education, observing a diet, monitoring posture and our weight, we do a good deed and give the spine health. But all efforts are often broken on dangerous polyurethane foam mattresses. The thing is that orthopedists strongly recommend sleeping on hard enough grounds - Especially for this, excellent orthopedic mattresses with coconut packing, independent spring blocks and other goodies are produced.

As for foam mattresses, they cannot provide healthy conditions for our backs. They strongly bend, the spine also bends along with them - over time this leads to its curvature and to the appearance of degenerative changes, which we can see on x-rays and tomograms.

Foam (polyurethane) mattresses are too soft. It seems to many that sleeping on a soft base is very convenient. But the body itself does not think so - if in the morning you feel numbness, tingling in the muscles, stiffness in movements and a complete lack of mood, you should know that your foam mattress is to blame.

Advantages and disadvantages of foam mattresses

Yes, polyurethane foam mattresses have their advantages:

  • Affordable price - due to this, they have become widespread,
  • Easy to transport - they can be twisted, wrinkled, bent,
  • Easy to clean.

But any positive properties are easily crossed out by disadvantages:

  • Foam mattresses are harmful to the spine,
  • Foam rubber emits harmful substances into the air (according to some experts).

Sleeping on polyurethane foam mattresses is not recommended for either children or adults. If you happen to purchase a children's foam mattress, you can safely send it to the trash can. It does not provide sufficient support for the spine, which will lead to numerous problems in the future.. Children under two years old are advised to sleep on tougher substrates, such as coconut mattresses, so a mattress made of polyurethane foam, even if it is reinforced with other materials to give rigidity, is highly undesirable.

Foam mattresses are also harmful due to their chemical properties. Many experts argue that the concentration of harmful substances in the air near the surface of the mattress is too high, so it is not recommended to sleep on them, either children or adults. If you want to give your spine and body health and longevity, choose mattresses from safer materials, such as coconut fiber.

The concept of polyurethane foam

By its properties, polyurethane foam is presented in the form of soft elastic foam, which is made on the basis of polyurethane. Inside the mattress are hollow cells filled with air. This can explain the low weight of the product.

In fact, foam is called a polyurethane foam composition. In the USSR, he was brought from Scandinavia, under the brand name of Porolon. This name was firmly entrenched in the everyday life of citizens, since it was rather difficult to use the word polyurethane foam.

Foam rubber is widely used in everyday life. No wonder we talked about how to make an inexpensive foam mattress with our own hands.

Let's talk briefly about how foam rubber and polyurethane foam are made.

Bunk bed-table: popular types of designs, how to make yourself

In the production of various foam stabilizers, polyol, catalysts and isocyanates. Many are sure that all these substances evaporate and cause great harm to human health. But in reality, this has not been experimentally confirmed. Plus, the manufacturers themselves assure that the components are connected, and can not stand out. But the allocation is possible only under the influence of moisture in the air. In this case, the substances instantly decompose into completely safe components. The only proven harm from PPU is the result of its burning.

When ignited, it does release harmful gases. But now thermoactive ingredients are used to combat this.

The total service life of PPU mattresses is up to 10 years. Then the chemical components begin the active process of isolation and decay, having pronounced carcinogenic properties. Because of this, you should not sleep on the mattress of this material for more than 10 years.

For newborns, pure PPU is better not to use. For babies, a special filler is used, such as coconut or the same latex.

When it comes to newborns, it is better for them to use appropriate mattresses. Read more about how to choose a berth for them, read this link.

Advantages and disadvantages

Currently, buying a mattress from PPU is not difficult. Yes, this is artificial material, but there is still a need to argue about which is better when comparing PPU or latex. The latter is natural, but extremely expensive. Polyurethane foam can provide almost the same properties for less money.

Having visited more than one thematic forum and after reading the reviews that you must also leave in the comments, certain conclusions were made regarding what the pros and cons of the material are.

Let's start with the benefits. They are:

  • optimal balance between price and quality,
  • the presence of orthopedic properties,
  • hygiene
  • lack of tendency to rot,
  • pests do not start inside
  • does not provoke allergic reactions,
  • safe for health (with high quality),
  • a sufficiently long service life,
  • ability to restore shape
  • the material breathes.

Choosing an orthopedic, spring or springless mattress, each of them can use polyurethane foam filler.

The main property of any high-quality mattress is its orthopedics. In this component, the PUF is excellent.

PPU mattress can be used as anti-decubitus. It is recommended for overweight people and those who are forced to constantly lie, undergo postoperative rehabilitation, get sick, etc.

But the material has some drawbacks. Namely:

Are you going to order a wardrobe: what to look for

  • Moisture is quickly and easily absorbed, as if in a sponge. Moreover, even vaporization can be absorbed,
  • If the product is cheap, it will quickly wear out and deform,
  • Careful care is needed in the form of ventilation, periodic flipping and cleaning,
  • A life of 10 years may seem small to some,
  • It’s difficult to clean it yourself; you have to contact special organizations. About the nuances of cleaning the mattress from stains, read in our material,
  • After 10 years, orthopedic and other properties begin to disappear, the material becomes harmful to health.

Relatively inexpensive, you can get a fairly hard mattress with optimal density, good orthopedic properties and a number of other advantages. At the same time, the disadvantages are fully offset by the advantages.

Varieties

Depending on the characteristics and structure, PPU mattresses can be produced in several varieties. Almost all of them are available in Ikea, they can be found without problems in the city of Ivanovo, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Volgograd, etc.

I can say that even for a child in some cases, if you are not influenced by stereotypes, you can take a PU foam mattress. This should be a quality product from a trusted manufacturer.

PPU-based mattresses come in several types.

  • With a surface that repeats the bends of the human body and adapts to it. You can read about mattresses with a memory effect in more detail at the link,
  • Spring loaded. Their price is already higher, but more rigidity, longer service life compared to products without springs. Choosing a springless or spring option, the last one is better for an adult,
  • Multilayer or sheet type PPU mattress. He uses an additional layer based on predominantly natural materials. Most often this is millet, cork, coconut coir, etc. Such options are often used for children's mattresses,

Asymmetric. To change the stiffness, just flip to the other side.

Usually for adults they take products with a thickness of 10 cm. For children, this is 6 or 8 cm.

It will not be superfluous to consult an orthopedist or a pediatrician, choosing a mattress for yourself or for a child.

Draw conclusions

Many organizations purchase wholesale sets of PPU mattresses. This is relevant, given their affordable cost against the background of excellent properties and characteristics.

If you want to ensure a healthy and soft sleep for yourself, there are many reasons to get a mattress based on polyurethane foam. Just do not blindly choose from a photo without having studied the exact composition and characteristics.

Regarding PPU mattresses, I can say the following. This is a good option. But provided that the product is high-quality and manufactured using modern technology. They contain the safest components and effective fillers, providing a wide range of positive qualities. But even the most expensive mattresses are not recommended for use for more than 10 years.

What can you say about this? What are your own impressions of PUF and how safe or harmful is this material for you? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments.

What is polyurethane foam?

The basis of good mattresses is a monolithic block of polyurethane foam, having a thickness of 16 cm

A high-quality polyurethane foam mattress can be called an excellent alternative to expensive orthopedic products. It costs much lower, has high supporting properties, has a long service life (subject to all production technologies). PPU - foam rubber with a modernized structure, higher parameters. Thanks to the new manufacturing technology, ordinary foam rubber could become an elastic, heat-resistant, dense material. PPU in its composition contains more than ninety percent of the air. In the manufacture of mattresses, PPU is used in its entirety, in layers. The holistic block is considered the prerogative of expensive models. In cheap variations, PUFs are used in thin layers glued together.

Polyurethane foam: benefit or harm?

Thanks to firmness and elasticity, good support is provided to the body during sleep and creates all conditions for a good rest

Any material of non-natural origin causes some concern among consumers. How safe are polyurethane foam mattresses? In the manufacture of polyurethane, chemicals are indeed used. They are dangerous to humans with open burning. Hydrocarbons are obtained from oil. When burned, they are released into the air. Therefore, there is an opinion that even with a little heating, the product begins to emit a specific smell. However, this is not true. Filler can become toxic only if the technology is not followed. If the production technology is fully complied with, then the polymer becomes inert. It is fully suitable, safe for human health. Residual vapors, unpleasant odor erode at the factory.

Polyurethane can release toxic substances into the air by burning and heating above 200 degrees, in normal use it is harmless

Another common opinion is not in favor of PPU - excessive softness. Some experts say polyurethane foam mattresses are not able to create conditions for the correct location of the spine. They believe that foam rubber bends strongly under load. All this can lead a person to serious problems with the spine. This is partial truth. Cheap models do not show the highest level of rigidity. It is better to buy them for infrequent use - in the country. High-quality products with a monolithic block have improved properties. They show a good orthopedic effect, the stiffness indicators are above average.

Under the weight of the body, the PUF bends and the spine is in the wrong, curved position during sleep, so you should carefully consider the choice of stiffness of the mattress

Advantages, disadvantages

Buyers often choose polyurethane foam mattresses from the low cost and low weight of the product itself.

Benefitsdisadvantages
Resistant to heavy loads. The product is suitable for prolonged use by obese people. Polyurethane foam has a good density. This increases its capabilities.Susceptibility to moisture. This filler is a kind of sponge. It absorbs moisture too well, even from the air. This is not the best quality.
Affordable for the price. The cost of such a filler is an order of magnitude lower than the rest. At the same time, the operating period, other parameters can make a good competition to expensive models. The need for professional care. Cleaning the product on your own will not work. In most cases, you have to seek help from professional companies. This requires additional cash investments.
Pronounced orthopedic effect. The material adapts to the body of the sleeping person. It is recommended for people who suffer from various diseases of the spine.Combustibility Foam rubber is very combustible. It is highly flammable and emits hazardous chemicals during combustion. However, many household items in the house possess similar properties. With the right attitude towards the bed, such a flaw will never come to light.
Convenience of transportation. Springless structures are easy to transport from one place to another. They can simply be rolled up, placed in the passenger compartment of a car.“Physical” aging. With prolonged use, the foam begins to crack, crumble.
High breathability. The porous structure of the polyurethane foam allows the structure to "breathe". Good air circulation prevents mold, bacteria, condensation.

PUF is quickly restored to its original form due to the porous structure and high density and elasticity

Modern polyurethane foam mattresses are divided into several types. They are:

    with memory effect

A memory foam mattress adjusts perfectly to body contours, which is very important for people with back pain

The main property of viscoelastic foam rubber is the ability to take the shape of the human body under the influence of its temperature, which significantly reduces pressure on the spine, muscles and joints

Standard polyurethane foam for a mattress density from 25 kg / m3

Soft PPU with its properties and structure, it strongly resembles foam rubber, but has much greater strength and durability

Super soft PPU is made with the help of special additives that reduce the stiffness of the material, are used for stuffing pillows and as the upper "softening" comfort layer of mattresses

PUF with increased rigidity with allowable load on it - 90-100 kg

Each species has its own characteristics, indications for use.

The rigidity levels of the mattress can vary significantly for each person - it is important to choose your own suitable option

Models with a memory effect are suitable for people with spinal problems. Standard mattresses can be purchased for a double bed. Super soft are shown to elderly people. Products with increased rigidity are intended for people whose weight exceeds eighty kilograms.

The rigidity of the mattress must be selected so that the spine is in a natural level position

In addition to foam rubber, the mattress has other components in its composition. A layer of polyurethane foam usually reaches only fifteen centimeters. Other fillers are additionally stacked to it. The most commonly used coconut coir. Coconut coir has an excellent antibacterial effect, high rigidity. It significantly extends the operational life of the structure.

Coconut coir gives polyurethane foam extra rigidity and extends its life

To give the mattress an orthopedic effect, a layer of polyurethane foam is made embossed. The fillers are covered with fabric on top. Most manufacturers prefer jacquard. The jacquard fabric is wear-resistant, has an attractive design, pleasant to the touch. If you additionally purchase a mattress cover, the “native” cover will retain its original appearance for a long time.

Thin polyurethane mattresses

Thin mattress or topper made of highly elastic finely porous foam

Foam mattresses can also differ in their dimensions and thickness. Thin products are in special demand. They are called toppers. Toppers are used as a mattress cover. Their main purpose is to improve the comfort level of a berth.

A thin mattress for the sofa will help level the surface of the sofa, make the bed “softer” or “tougher”

Using a thin PPU mattress, you can provide the following conditions.

  • To make the bed softer, tougher - it all depends on the needs of the sleeping person. Stiffness correction may be required when the old coating sags, and health problems occur.
  • Make a bed with a limited height. Sometimes furniture dictates its own conditions for buying bedding. Bunk beds, convertible beds often require thin mattresses.
  • Create an extra bed for guests, country rest. In this case, there is no need to purchase expensive models. Topper does a great job.

Polyurethane foam topper has good characteristics. Qualitative models of ways to perfectly adapt to the shape of the body. They will help to relax the muscles, have a good rest. Foam toppers are not afraid of temperature changes, they are well ventilated. They will not spoil during the "wintering" in the country. Another important plus is hypoallergenicity. Filler is safe for people prone to allergic reactions. Moreover, the cost of products is very acceptable.

Topper made of this material is the most affordable, although the most short-lived

Can a springless mattress be repaired?

Eco-friendly orthopedic mattress made of PUF winter / summer- a great option for a springless mattress

Buying a high-quality springless mattress is an investment for a long period of time. Subject to the production technology, the product is able to properly serve more than five years. However, any thing wears out over time, requires adjustment, a little repair. Springless constructions are easily repaired.

The causes of their malfunction can be different:

  • mechanical damage with a sharp object,
  • reboot
  • normal “physical” aging
  • the appearance of holes, cracks under the influence of water, other environmental factors.

Replacing a springless block, a bearing beam, frame parts, cover - all these services are offered by many companies. Full hauling, restoration of a mattress made of polyurethane foam does not take much time, it is relatively inexpensive. If you want to make a small repair, you can do it yourself. For example, many owners can easily sew a new cover, replace the damaged PPU layer. This does not require special skills, expensive equipment.

Choose a children's mattress

Springless children's mattress based on orthopedic foam and coconut coir has two sides and is perfect for a growing body

Foam mattresses are often chosen by parents for their children because of good orthopedic properties, reasonable price, hypoallergenicity. When choosing such a mattress, several important criteria must be taken into account.

  1. Individual parameters of the baby. Height, weight, age. Experts recommend choosing mattresses with low, medium hardness for children. They will allow the children's body to properly form, grow.
  2. The size of the bed. The sleeping surface should be perfectly sized. If the mattress is smaller, this will lead to discomfort during sleep, rapid wear of the product. The mattress can be less than the internal volume of the bed by only 1-2 centimeters.
  3. The weight of the mattress. The higher the weight of the PPU product, the higher its quality. High weight means high construction density. At high density, the sleeping surface can last for many years.
  4. Surface stability. When choosing a product, you need to evaluate it by touch. First you should sit on the surface, then stand up. Pay attention to the time during which the surface will restore its previous shape. Fast restoration of the initial form is an essential indicator of high quality.
  5. Wear resistance of the cover. The crib is subjected to heavy load. Children love to jump on the mattress, play, have fun. All this leads to increased wear of the cover. For this reason, you must initially give preference to dense, wear-resistant fabrics of good quality. Jacquard is an ideal option. The fabric has amazing performance properties.

What is PPU in a mattress?

Polyurethane foam mattresses are a good substitute for mattresses with orthopedic effect, the more their price is lower, and the quality is no worse.

Polyurethane foam, which is the basis of mattresses, is nothing but foam rubber, only with improved properties. The name Porolon was given to the material thanks to the Scandinavian company that was called so. To date, only the name is left of the quality and properties of that material. Thanks to modern technology, foam rubber received not only a new name, but also acquired a lot of new and useful qualities that allowed it to be used in the production of mattresses.

All manufacturers producing PPU, as a rule, produce it according to one technology, corresponding to a certain scheme. First, two substances are mixed in certain proportions, to which water is added. During the chemical reaction, carbon dioxide is released, due to which foaming of substances occurs and the formation of a further porous structure. During the reaction, which lasts no more than 20 minutes, catalysts and stabilizers are added. Then the mass is poured into a special form and remains for two days for the final polymerization.

Thanks to mixing technology in certain proportions of substances, polyurethane foam, containing 90% of air in its composition, acquires basic characteristics, such as elasticity, heat resistance, density and rigidity.

In addition to these indicators, the quality of mattresses is also affected by the multilayer or monolithic nature of this material. The basis of good mattresses is a monolithic block of polyurethane foam, having a thickness of 16 cm. In cheaper models, a multilayer block of glued layers of PPU is used. A 15 cm thick mattress will consist of five layers of three centimeters. Products based on glued blocks are much cheaper.

Health benefits and harms

It is no secret that chemicals are used for the production of PUFs, this fact causes a lot of debate about its negative effects on the body. There is confirmed evidence that the elements that make up the polyurethane foam are hydrocarbons obtained from oil, and with open burning these substances are released into the air in high concentrations. But it is still unknown whether such components cause such great harm under normal conditions.

There is an opinion that when the mattress, which includes this polymer, is heated to a specific temperature, a specific odor appears due to the release of harmful components that make up the foam. Therefore, it was believed that the use of this material as a filler for a mattress is unsafe. But in fairness it should be noted that the toxicity of this filler arises only when non-compliance with production technology.

Therefore, you should not save on your own health and buy a mattress from little-known manufacturers. Large firms monitor the quality of their products.

It is believed that the polymer has completely reacted, that is, the technology has been observed from and to, is inert, and therefore safe and suitable for use as a filler. The subtle smell and residual vapors disappear after a maximum of two weeks and further operation of the mattress does not pose a health hazard.

In addition to chemical properties, according to some experts, PPU is accused of being too soft. They argue that mattresses, which are based on polyurethane foam, can not provide the correct position of the spine, since it bends very much, and with it the spinal column also bends. Over time, such bending can lead to curvature of the spine and many other problems. For children under two years of age, the use of PPU as a filler is extremely undesirable, for such babies there are their own fillers.

But modern technologies used in the production of polyurethane foam, allow to produce this material with improved properties. A good high-quality filler has stiffness indices higher than average, and the cost of a foam mattress is significantly higher than that of a product with a spring block. Today it is impossible to unequivocally state that PPU is harmful to human health, but also there is no certainty that it is absolutely safe. Therefore, each person must decide for himself whether to buy a mattress in a composition that has polyurethane foam or refuse to buy.

Which is better: holofiber, latex or polyurethane foam?

Polyurethane foam, latex and holofiber are often used in the manufacture of mattresses. In order to compare them, it is necessary to analyze the properties of materials:

  • Latex - natural material obtained by processing rubber wood, and PPU and holofiber are of artificial origin. Latex has an antibacterial effect, has a porous structure, pronounced orthopedic effect, breathable and easy to care for. Of the shortcomings can only be called a high price.
  • PPU has similar characteristics with latex, but more affordable. In addition, this material has a shorter service life compared to latex, as well as a lower allowable load.
  • Hollofiber - the material is synthetic and most often consists of polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile and some other fibers. This bulk material has a lower cost in comparison with PUF and especially with latex. After a very short period of time, the holofiber volume decreases very much, in six months it can lose more than 2 cm in height. And yet, this material is often used in the manufacture of mattresses, the reason is simple - its cost, and the cheaper the filler, the greater the profit of manufacturers. Hollofiber can be used in mattresses, but only as an additional layer, and not the basis.

Polyurethane foam and latex are more suitable as a basis for mattresses, and holofiber as an additional layer.

There are various types of mattresses based on polyurethane foam. These include highly elastic models with a memory effect, viscoelastic, standard, soft, ultra-soft, models with increased rigidity.

Most often, manufacturers are not limited to one polyurethane foam in the production, since the height of the product is only 15 cm, and therefore various fillers are additionally put into mattresses. These include coconut coir, felt, jacquard fabric. Such combined models not only become taller and denser, but also acquire additional properties that improve the quality of products.

Coconut coir gives the product rigidity, extends the life of the product and has an antibacterial effect. Polyurethane foam mattress with this extra layer is suitable for children. Jacquard fabric is used for covers. To give orthopedic properties to mattresses, manufacturers make the surface of the polyurethane foam embossed.

Dimensions

In addition to degrees of rigidity, foam mattresses are classified by size. There are single options, one and a half, double and non-standard. As a rule, manufacturers try to produce sizes adapted to the dimensions of modern furniture.

Single mattresses include dimensions: 80x190 cm, 80x200 cm, 90x190 cm, 90x200 cm and a slightly shortened version adapted to a certain type of bed 80x180 cm. One and half models can include dimensions: 140x200 cm, 120x200 cm. These sizes are most in demand, especially the size 140x200 cm, as it is suitable not only for single beds, but also for double beds. After all, the width of 140 cm is very common in beds designed for two people.

Double mattresses include products with dimensions of 160x200 cm, 180x200 cm. Manufacturers produce non-standard sizes only by individual orders. For example, the size is 190x130 cm, which can not be attributed to one and a half beds, or to a single mattress.

The height of the side is another indicator by which it is possible to classify PPU mattresses. Products with a height of 5-10 cm are considered thin. Models with such low sides are made either for sofas, armchairs, folding beds, or for kids. The standard height of the mattress starts from 15 cm.

Density and stiffness

This cellular filler has two main indicators: density and rigidity. The ratio of these two values affects the quality of the material, while the density is a more significant indicator compared to stiffness. The higher it is, the better the mattress, which is based on this material, and the stiffness index can be low.

Indices such as the permissible load on one berth and the life of the product, which is based on PUF, depend on the density and rigidity.

The cheapest mattresses have a hardness index not higher than average, the service life of products that include such a filler is not more than 3 years, and the permissible load on the berth is not more than 90 kg. The second group includes mattresses with an average stiffness index slightly higher, while the service life of such products is 5-7 years, and the load increases to 110 kg per bed. Good quality products have a service life of about 10 years, their rigidity is above average, and the allowable load increases and reaches a value of 140 kg.

The cloth

As a cover for products made of polyurethane foam, various mattress fabric is used. Most often it is jacquard, knitwear, calico, calico and in more expensive membrane models:

  • Good quality fabric incorporates cotton. Thanks to him, the fabric acquires such a quality as breathability. Synthetic fabrics, compared with cotton, have a lower rate of breathability, with the exception of some types of expensive fabrics.
  • Jacquard The fabric is durable and exquisite in appearance. It consists of both natural and synthetic fibers. Synthetic jacquard is resistant to abrasion, stretching and denser than knitted fabric, but inferior to it in comfort.
  • For children's mattresses used calico or polycotton. These fabrics incorporate cotton fibers, thanks to which the fabric is well ventilated.
  • Membrane It is a non-woven fabric having high water repellent properties. In addition, this fabric is very resistant to high temperatures, has high breathability and crease resistance.

Companies producing mattresses are guided, first of all, by consumer preferences. For children, covers, as a rule, have a bright color. The color scheme intended for the mass consumer does not differ in a wide range. But this is not particularly necessary.

Mattresses are mainly purchased for beds installed in bedrooms, already decorated in a certain color scheme and therefore bright colors will not come in handy. The most popular color is white. The best option, suitable for almost all bedrooms, decorated in any style. Sometimes there are models that have a light gray color of the cover. In exclusive models, the case may be black with an interesting pattern.

For medical institutions, manufacturers produce models that have covers in dark colors. Burgundy, dark green and emerald are the most popular shades for these institutions.

Manufacturers rating

There is a rating of models from different manufacturers:

  • In the first place is a hard mattress Askona basic high with a side height of 21 cm, manufactured by Ascona. The model can withstand a maximum load of 110 kg. The jacquard fabric at the base of the cover is resistant to abrasion and washing. For ease of transportation, the mattress is twisted into a roll and has a weight of 9 kg.
  • The second place is occupied by a mattress from the same company. Askona comfort plus. In this model with an average degree of hardness, polyurethane foam is used in combination with an independent spring unit. It is located on the surface and around the perimeter. Permissible maximum load 110 kg.
  • The third place is occupied by the mattress from the company. Consul. The model Consul Filon with an average degree of rigidity and high density of PUF can withstand a load of up to 120 kg. For ease of transportation, it is twisted into a roll. The cover has a removable.
  • Model Vegas Hit 4 with a removable cover and a maximum load of 120-130 kg produced by the Belarusian company Vegas. The relief zonal surface of the mattress has increased elasticity on both sides of the model.
  • Mattress Relax Eco 1 with a low degree of rigidity it is equipped with a polyurethane foam block with a thickness of 14 cm. In this mattress, the load on a berth is not more than 90 kg. A distinctive feature of this model is the cover, impregnated with a solution that prevents the ignition of the fabric.
  • The most affordable model Dreamline Classic Roll Slim with an average degree of rigidity and a side height of 10 cm, it is suitable not only for beds, but also for sofas, folding beds, couches. The maximum load on a berth is 100 kg. Universal model, but with low orthopedic effect.
